see that beautiful skyline? that right there, is the view from victoria peak, hong kong.

my family and i (justine) have made this yearly tradition of going to hong kong for the holidays. for the past three years, we've been making hong kong our second home every december. i absolutely enjoy every trip i make to hong kong. even if i've probably been to every nook and cranny in this small but beautiful island, i find myself discovering something new about it with every visit.

some of the things i fancy about hong kong is that it's a small island which means it's easier to get around. hong kong is also divided into 2 sides: the hong kong side and the kowloon side. you can get from one side and back with no worries. they have the usual taxis, buses and a ferry (if you want to take the scenic way and also be able to save some money) they also have an mtr (similar to a subway) that can take you just about anywhere you need to go from kowloon to sunny bay, where you can take the connecting line which will take you to the disneyland resort. :-)

hong kong is also one of the best places you can go shopping. they have just about everything there and at affordable prices, too. they have the mongkok night market, where you can find the best bargains but if you're more of the window shopper, they have stores such as zara, h&m and my personal favourite, cotton on! they also have a lot of the branded stores such lv, chanel, coach, gucci and many more!

if you're an avid fan of eating (such as myself) hong kong is one of the best places to let your taste buds have an adventure. my family and i absolutely love dimsum. if you're a dimsum lover, a trip to maxims at the city hall is definitely a must-visit. they're dimsum is the best that i've tasted so far in my 19 years of existence. the wait can be long just to get a seat and it's a tad pricier than most places, but take it from me, it is worth it! :-) i would also recommend you eat at crystal jade in ocean terminal. i am not a huge fan of chinese food; it definitely wouldn't be my first choice if you were to ask me what cuisine i would want to have, but crystal jade is one of the few places you can actually get me to eat chinese food and be full. they have delicious xiao long bao which is a must order when you eat there. :-)

lastly, i love the cold weather that hong kong has every winter and spring. i love looking at everyone all dressed up in their coats in boots. it's something we don't get to do very often here in the philippines because of our tropical weather. so it's definitely fun to be able to dress up a bit while i'm there. and also, hong kong is really clean, so you don't see any stray animals or bugs running about in the streets.

would you believe it? just a two hour plane ride away and you get all of this! see, we don't need to travel far to get a bite of that new york experience. to me, hong kong is the new york of asia. maybe not as big, but it sure gives you the same ambiance, minus the heavy price tag.

so if you're looking to plan a trip, hong kong is definitely an option you should have! it's not so heavy on the budget, food is great, shopping is great, what more could you ask for! :-)
